My daughter (4 and half) is still at the age that enjoys getting a sticker.
So we have a chart for her to work on some life skill assignments.
We were working on things like…
– Brush your own teeth
– Finish your food
– Say hello and thank you to people
– Sleep through the night…
She filled up most of the spaces, so I need to make her a new one!
I am very happy to see her grow in her life skills and independence!
I was thinking what I should put down in her chart for her new assignments.
Then I thought of a book that I read…
“Don’t focus on children’s behavior, focus on their characters”
So instead of putting “to-do” list of assignment….
I gave her a list of characters.
She still comes to me and asks for a sticker when she finishes her food.
But my focus is for us to have a great conversation about characters.
“You shared your sunglasses with your friend. That was kind.”
“You didn’t want to eat this food, but you tried it. That was so brave!”
What do you do to motivate your toddlers?
What kind of conversation do you have?
